AI visibility for salon owners is quickly becoming one of those things you can’t afford to ignore, and most of us are only just waking up to it. I recently sat down with Dawn Kubicek, founder of Leaders in Digital, to talk about what AI visibility actually means, and honestly, it changed how I think about being “seen” online.

Here’s the shift: people aren’t just searching Google for “best salon near me” anymore. They’re asking ChatGPT, Claude, and Google AI Mode questions like “which stylist does the best balayage in my area?” or “what’s the difference between this treatment and that one?”  and getting a shortlist back before they’ve even looked at a single website. If AI doesn’t understand your business, you don’t make that shortlist. Simple as that.

Your Website Is Still Your Foundation

One of the biggest myths right now is that websites don’t matter as much anymore because everyone’s on Instagram. Dawn’s take on this stuck with me: your website is your house. If it’s outdated, inconsistent, or hasn’t been touched in months, AI platforms read that as a sign your brand isn’t being looked after, and it affects your ranking. Businesses without a website can score as low as 2% on AI visibility audits. With a well-maintained one, that can jump to 25% and beyond.

Write Copy That AI Can Actually Understand

AI bots don’t have time to read a full caption or a rambling video intro. A few quick wins here: put your key takeaway in the first line or two of any post, say who you are and what you do clearly in the first ten seconds of any video, and keep repeating those core lines consistently across your content. If you don’t spell out what you do and where you’re based, AI has no way of knowing.

Content Depth Beats Content Volume

It’s tempting to think posting more often is the answer, but AI visibility for salon owners isn’t about volume, it’s about depth. A handful of well-thought-out, detailed posts that include real facts, stats or specifics will outperform ten reels a week with no strategy behind them. Quality signals to AI that your content, and your business, is credible.

Reviews and Google Business Profile Still Count

Your Google reviews and Google Business Profile aren’t just for humans anymore, AI is watching those too. Keeping your profile complete, up to date, and consistently gathering reviews is one of the simplest ways to protect and boost your AI ranking, especially in an industry like ours where reviews carry so much weight.

Track Where You Actually Rank

You can’t improve what you’re not measuring. Tools like Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs and Ubersuggest let you see exactly where you currently rank for the questions your clients are actually asking AI, so you know where to focus first instead of guessing.

If you take one thing from this, let it be this: AI visibility for salon owners isn’t a future problem, it’s a right-now problem. Check your website is current, tighten up your captions and video intros, keep those Google reviews coming, and start tracking where you actually rank. Small, consistent steps here compound fast.

Dawn and her team at Leaders in Digital are offering a free AI visibility audit for anyone in our community, a great first step to see exactly where your business currently stands before you change anything. Watch out for the podcast dropping soon as the link will be in the shownotes.
